 Bounty hunter from Concordia. Married to Alice Graves. Carries a shoulder injury and guilt tied to past deaths. Focused, restrained, and tracking Silas Tolliver to recover his wife. 

 Born into aristocracy. Works as a schoolteacher. Kidnapped by Silas Tolliver and later forced to marry him. Intelligent, composed, and actively working to escape and dismantle his control.

 Antagonist. Wealthy landowner, former distiller, and orchestrator of multiple murders. Fixated on power and symbolism. Built private mythology using playing cards. Abducted and manipulated Alice for control. 

 Close friend of Alice and Mitchell-like a sister. Quiet, Creole, and brave. Taught French to Levi Tolliver and allied with Esther. Murdered by Silas. Her hidden letter becomes a turning point in the story. 

Owner of the saloon in Sable Junction. Took Mitchell in when he was 18 and grieving. Offered shelter to at-risk women. Provided intel on Silas. Killed in a shootout in Sable Junction.

Civil War veteran.  Former field nurse. Survived Gettysburg. Runs an apothecary and treats anyone in need. Aids both Alice and Mitchell. Practical, blunt, and later builds a life with Gus in Sable Junction. 

 Silas’s foreman and longtime friend. Helped both Esther and Alice escape. Died protecting Alice. In his final moments, revealed that Levi’s true guardian is his sister. 

 Brought wealth into the Tolliver marriage. Mother to Levi. Close to Corrine. Killed by Silas in the bayou. Remembered as kind, brave, and the first to see him clearly. 

 Five years old. Smart, curious, and loves to read. Took French lessons from Corrine. Escaped the night Esther was killed. Later adopted by Alice and Mitchell Graves.

 Seen as a mystic, but deeply intuitive. The only person Silas fully trusts. Helps both Mitchell and Alice. Gives Alice the poisoned pendant used to bring Silas down..
